My latest book hunt - Brida by Paulo Coelho

Recently I read the book 'Brida' from the author of 'The Alchemist' fame Paulo Coelho. The story revolves around a beautiful young Irish girl - Brida. Brida in her quest for knowledge and wisdom meets a wise man, a wizard - Magus who on the minute of seeing her recognizes her as his soul mate. This concept of soul mate has been well explained in the story. He teaches her that magic is a bridge that connects the visible with the invisible world and it can be learned through either the tradition of sun - thro self learning or tradition of moon - thro time-tested practices and rituals. Brida chooses to learn it through tradition of moon and meets Wicca, a witch who begins teaching her through the tradition of moon. Both Magus and Wicca realize that Brida possessed a gift which they want her to discover on her own in her search for knowledge. Brida is well-supported by her boyfriend Lorens who is a researcher. Wicca teaches Brida the rituals in the tradition of moon, to dance to the hidden music of the world, to choose the right dress, to identify her soul mate and finally makes her realize her gift - the discerning of the spirits (Brida learns to listen to unknown voices which guide her). When Brida realizes her gift and the fact that she is a witch, Wicca makes arrangements for Brida's formal Initiation into the world of magic at the time of 'Equinox' - where the day and night are of equal length. When Brida goes to the forest to meet Magus and to thank him and to invite him for the sabbath, she identifies him to be her soul mate. Brida is now confused with her relationships - she realized her love for both Lorens and Magus. On the day of the Initiation when Magus arrives at the Sabbath, he finds that Lorens is his soul mate too!! Brida gets initiated into the world of magic and finally decides upon her choice of soul mate..
The author has made a nice blend of the teachings of Christianity with Tarots, witchcrafts etc. Too many technical details about the witchcraft rituals could at times make the readers feel bored. The author has definitely brought out a debatable point in the minds of the readers - Would the search for knowledge and wisdom result in a person becoming a witch or a wizard?? Though not as inspirational as 'The Alchemist' from an ordinary man's point of view, the author's narrative skill is appreciatory and the book is worth-reading.

I have a doubt. Is this author trying to criticize Christianity or is he trying to tell something else. Christianity forbids witchcraft and magic. They shall be punished by the Lord. This is the reason i started to hate Harry Potter. Now, I thank Lord Jesus Christ for opening my eye.

The author is not trying to criticize Christianity; I would suggest that you read the book for better clarity.
