Defining Happiness – A short cut to solve your life problems

Most of us encounter a lot of problems everyday. Tons of money, millions of people around and high-profile celebrity fame do not yield us happiness. So what is happiness? Happiness is a mental state of calmness and peace. . To have a peaceful life is what all of us endeavour at the end of the day. Happiness comes from within. There is no point searching for it outside us, in the environment we live in.

As children, we are generally surrounded by loveable people. But as we grow up, we start facing a cruel and unacceptable world. Most of us, who do not know how to handle problems, face emotional trauma resulting in wasting of precious life time.

How do we handle this? You are not whom you are. Did you hear me right? Yes, You are not whom you are. When you face a problem, distance yourself from the person you are. Look at the person just as a mere character in the game of life, playing a role. When someone hurts you without a reason, look at it as a character played by you as being offended and hurt. This way, you will avoid internal sufferings.

Love yourself. Nobody knows you better. So don’t expect others to treat you well. If things churn out the way we want them in life, its good for us. To the contrary, if we suffer, we need to blame our own self for the suffering.

Knowing yourself

Nobody in this world is perfect. Even if anyone claims that he/she is perfect and enjoys life, then there need not be a 100% truth in it. Every child which is born is the creation of the greatest Creator and is flawless. However the circumstances and the situations in which each one is brought up and currently lives determines his/her attitude towards life. A person who has a reasonably well-settled life can never know or be aware of the pains and sufferings undergone by someone who has only seen the worse part of life. So, beware.. Don’t offer free advices to anyone if you have had a good life!
All the teachings of the Hindu religion (and maybe other religions too) talk of control over the mind. On a deeper introspection, we can find the truth in it. When someone gives you a gift and you don’t wish to accept it, the giver still is the owner of the gift. Likewise, you encounter a dirty experience, and you are determined to not give a thought about it, only the other person retains the ownership of the insulting words that are thrown out. So control over the mind and its thought process is the key.
Life is full of positives and negatives. The average human mind is attuned to brooding over the negative things and fails to look into the positive aspects of life. If someone has a loving and caring relative or a friend, food to eat, clothes to wear and a home to sleep, he/she is better than millions in this world. But we generally take these things for granted and keep complaining constantly about a few misfortunes of our life. This clearly exhibits a very low level of mental maturity and such constant brooding affects physical and mental health.
So what is that we need to do? Well, I firmly believe that “To preach, you need to practice”. Frankly, I am not experienced myself to give free useless advices and suggestions. But I have read many well-learned people talking about meditation as means of achieving control over the mind. But I think knowing about the self and self-introspection could possibly be the simplest ways to stay away from all controversies. If I decide to be happy, nobody can stop that. To the contrary, if I allow someone to hurt me and I keep brooding over it, then again it reflects my pessimism. I hope my understanding is correct.
Nobody is God. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is absolutely good. Nobody is absolutely bad.

Am Back

This is my second coming – this time with a greater thrust and intention to continue writing the blog without a break. Writing opens up the heart and helps us pour out our emotions, both good and bad. I have tons of things accumulated in my mind. I hope that my articles give me an opportunity to unload these thoughts...

Lessons of life...

Hi, an interesting piece of mail which I would like to share with you, a 90 year old writes about the lessons of life...Read and think...
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41.. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come.

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

CWG opening - well planned

President vs Prince
After a brief confusion of who should declare the CWG open, it is very clever to have both president Smt. Patil and Prince Charles to jointly inaugurate the games; Prince Charles after reading the queen’s message declaring the games ‘open’ followed by the president saying ‘Let the games begin’.
What an attitude?
India’s star wrestler Sushil Kumar who handed over the Baton to Prince Charles, came all the way chewing a bubble gum which appeared very much mannerless and informal. Maybe it is a belief in India that stars should show off (of course there are exception too!)

Endhiran redefines Tamil Cinema

The long awaited Super star starrer Endhiran has definitely taken Tamil cinema to its next level. With a never before Indian movie making budget of Rs. 160 crores, the movie has several special features in it including excellent costumes, make-up, screenplay, music and direction. Years of hard-work is very evident in the movie.
Though the concept of humanoids, artificial intelligence and EQ among robots has been brought out in several English movies including the famous Will Smith starrer i-robot, translating such a concept into a Tamil movie whose audience is limited compared to that of English movies requires a lot of courage; hats-off to the James Cameroon of India, dear Mr. Shankar.
Though the movie seemed to be a bit lengthy and pulling slowly in the middle, the climax was excellent and the graphics was amazing. At the end of the ‘close to 3 hours show’ I definitely got the feeling of having watched an English movie in the genre of ‘Terminator series’.
Aishwarya was definitely beautiful despite her age, thanks to the beautiful make-up and costume designing. I am unsure if any other hero would have done justice to this role or rather putting this way, ‘This movie would not have created the impact it has now created but for Rajini’s presence’.
One last word before I wrap up, Shankar is even luckier than James Cameroon because “ THERE’S NO RAJINI IN HOLLYWOOD’....Rajini rocks!
